Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – Becoming an entrepreneur takes more than just having a good idea and an attractive product. The ability to identify opportunities, understand consumer needs, and adapt to changing market conditions is also essential for business growth. These aspects were highlighted at the 2026 General Lecture organized by the Suka Maju Student Cooperative (KOPMA SUKMA) and Entrepreneurship Student Organization, held on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Carrying the theme “Entrepreneurship in Building Adaptive and Sustainable Businesses,” the event took place at the Kasman Singodimedjo Auditorium, UMPWR, and was attended by 190 students. Through this event, students were encouraged to learn more about the business world and gain practical insights into starting and developing a business amid changing times.

The general lecture featured two business owners as speakers: Nur Riyanto, owner of Amira Bakery, and Tyas Larasati, owner of Donat Bener Mranti. Both shared their experiences and strategies for running a business, from starting a venture to ensuring its long-term sustainability in an evolving market.

Nur Riyanto delivered a session on strategies for starting and growing a business, while Tyas Larasati discussed how to build an adaptive and sustainable business. The insights shared by the speakers are expected to serve as valuable guidance for students who wish to start their own businesses or develop existing business ideas.

The event was also attended by Ageng Triyono, M.Pd., lecturer for the Entrepreneur & Business Plan course, the Supervisory Board of KOPMA SUKMA and Entrepreneurship, the organization's chairperson, as well as committee members and KOPMA members.

Amid rapid technological advancements and constantly changing market trends, students need the courage to take action as well as the ability to adapt. Through this event, participants were encouraged not only to understand entrepreneurship in theory but also to learn directly from business owners about overcoming challenges and making the most of available opportunities.

One of the participants said the event had provided valuable new insights into entrepreneurship. The participant noted that running a business is not simply about selling products, but also about recognizing opportunities and having the courage to try new things.

“I feel that the 2026 General Lecture has given me new experiences and insights into entrepreneurship. Through this event, I have come to understand that entrepreneurship is not just about selling products, but also about how we identify opportunities, adapt, and have the courage to give things a try,” the participant said.

In addition to providing a learning platform for entrepreneurship, the event also served as an opportunity to introduce KOPMA SUKMA and Entrepreneurship to UMPWR students, particularly new students. Through the organization, students can learn, participate in organizational activities, gain experience, and develop their interests and skills in entrepreneurship.

Through this event, KOPMA SUKMA and Entrepreneurship UMPWR hope to inspire more students to explore the business world. Beyond having the courage to start, students are also expected to develop businesses that are innovative, adaptive, and sustainable.
