Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – The opening match of the 2026 UMPWR Rector’s Cup Fun Football featured an engaging and competitive contest. Held at Sarwo Edhie Wibowo Stadium in Purworejo on Monday (October 5, 2026), the UMPWR team made a winning start to the tournament with a 3-1 victory over PPL Papa Legend Kutoarjo.
The result marked a positive opening for UMPWR, which is hosting the Upper 40 category tournament as part of the series of events commemorating the university’s 62nd Anniversary (Milad), under the theme “Growing, Resilient, and Making an Impact.”
From the opening whistle, both teams looked eager to build attacks and create scoring opportunities. Backed by supporters around the field, UMPWR managed to capitalize on several chances and score three goals. PPL Papa Legend Kutoarjo could only respond with one goal, as the match ended 3-1 in UMPWR’s favor.
The victory provides UMPWR with a strong early boost as they prepare for their next matches in the Group A preliminary stage.
PGRI Purworejo Win Their Opening Match
Before the UMPWR versus PPL Papa Legend match, the opening fixture of the group stage had also taken place. PGRI Purworejo secured a 2-1 victory over Grabag All Stars (GAS).
The match was closely contested, with both sides creating opportunities to score. However, PGRI Purworejo were more effective in making the most of their chances and eventually finished the game with a 2-1 win.
The result gave PGRI Purworejo three points from their opening appearance in the 2026 UMPWR Rector’s Cup Fun Football.
The tournament will continue with a series of group-stage matches through October 20, 2026. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026, followed by the final on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
