Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – The creativity of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) students has once again received national recognition. The UMPWR student team won Second Place in the Campus Indie Film Category at the 2026 National PTMA Social Media Campaign Competition with their short film entitled “ARE U OKAY?”
The achievement came after competing against 329 participants from various Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (PTMA) across Indonesia. The competition provided a platform for students to express their creativity through digital works that are educational, inspiring, and carry meaningful social messages for the community.
The 2026 PTMA Social Media Campaign Competition carried the theme “Filling Independence with Creative Works, Progressive Muhammadiyah for Indonesia.” One of the subthemes focused on mental health and social awareness, which became the main focus of the UMPWR team in producing “ARE U OKAY?”
The UMPWR team consisted of Annie Nurfaticha and Wahyu Handika from the Management Study Program, Naufal Hanif from the Management Study Program, Ahmad Haris Nurudin from the Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Study Program, and Khusnul Khotimah from the Management Study Program.
The film “ARE U OKAY?” tells the story of Annie, a student known for her achievements, strength, and seemingly perfect life in the eyes of others. Behind her accomplishments, however, she carries pressure, exhaustion, and emotional burdens that she finds difficult to share with those around her.
The story invites viewers to see another side of Annie’s life. Academic pressure, changes in social relationships, and assumptions from those around her become part of the conflict she faces. The film highlights the reality that someone who appears to be doing fine may not actually be okay.
With the support of her friends, Annie gradually finds the courage to open up and realizes that asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Through the story, the team hopes to encourage greater awareness of mental health, foster empathy, and create an environment where people feel safe to share their struggles and receive support.
“This achievement has been a very valuable experience for us. Through ARE U OKAY?, we want to convey that everyone has struggles that may not be visible to others. We hope this work can raise awareness about mental health and encourage people to be more sensitive in providing support to those around them,” said Annie Nurfaticha, the team leader.
According to Annie, participating in the competition was a valuable experience for the team. Their journey began with selecting team members, developing the initial idea, preparing the campaign concept, producing the film, uploading the work, and going through the judging process.
The entire competition was held online. Registration and submission of works took place from July 27 to September 20, 2026, followed by the judging process from September 21–25, 2026, and the announcement of the winners on September 30, 2026.
“This achievement proves that student creativity can create a positive impact through the use of digital media. I am grateful to have represented the university in this national competition. Hopefully, our work will not only become an achievement, but also inspire people to continue creating and contribute to positive change,” Annie added.
The achievement demonstrates that student works can go beyond competition. Through digital media, UMPWR students can also take part in raising awareness of issues that are closely connected to people’s everyday lives. “ARE U OKAY?” is one example of how creativity can be combined with social awareness to deliver a message that can hopefully benefit the wider community.
