Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – The streets of Purworejo were once again enlivened by the academic community of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR). On Friday (September 18, 2026), UMPWR held the 2026 New Student Taaruf Parade as part of the university’s 62nd Anniversary celebration and as a welcoming event for new students of the 2026/2027 Academic Year.
The annual parade made its way through several streets in Purworejo. It was joined by UMPWR’s 2026 new students, representatives of Student Activity Units (UKM), Student Associations (HIMA), as well as lecturers and education staff.
The participation of new students alongside the wider academic community was more than simply part of the welcoming series of events. It also provided an opportunity for UMPWR to connect more closely with the community and introduce the newest members of the university to the people of Purworejo.
Chair of the UMPWR 62nd Anniversary Committee, Dr. Arif Maftukin, M.Pd., said that this year’s Taaruf Parade was held in line with the theme of the 62nd Anniversary celebration: “Grow, Be Resilient, and Make an Impact.”
According to him, the theme reflects UMPWR’s ongoing journey to grow, remain resilient in facing various challenges, and expand its contribution and impact on society.
“Grow—alhamdulillah, this year UMPWR has eight study programs that have achieved the Unggul (Excellent) accreditation status. Be resilient—we must remain strong in facing the challenges and obstacles ahead. And make an impact—UMPWR and its entire academic community should be able to create a wider impact and provide greater benefits for society,” he explained.
Meanwhile, UMPWR Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., said that the New Student Taaruf Parade serves as a form of syiar and a way to introduce UMPWR’s new students to the people of Purworejo.
“This Taaruf Parade is part of UMPWR’s syiar, while also introducing our new students to the Purworejo community. They are not only here to study on campus, but are also becoming part of the wider community, where they are expected to contribute and provide benefits in the future,” he said.
Through the event, new students were encouraged to begin getting to know their university environment while also building closer connections with the surrounding community. The spirit of togetherness shown throughout the parade marked the beginning of their journey in academic and student life at UMPWR.
The 2026 Taaruf Parade was one of the highlights of the 62nd UMPWR Anniversary celebration, which will continue with a variety of activities. The spirit of growing, being resilient, and making an impact is expected to go beyond the anniversary theme and become a shared spirit for the entire UMPWR academic community in carrying out its role and contributing to society.
