Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – The 2026 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PPKKMB) and Masa Taaruf (Masta) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) officially concluded on Wednesday afternoon (September 16, 2026). The closing marked the beginning of a new journey for the new students as part of the UMPWR community.
On the occasion, UMPWR Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., shared several messages with the new students, reminding them that university life should not be solely about pursuing grades and a degree. More than that, their time at university should be a space to keep growing, develop their abilities, build character, and gain experiences that will serve them well in the future.
“Make campus a place to grow. Do not focus only on grades and a degree, but also develop your knowledge, skills, character, creativity, leadership, and social awareness,” the Rector told the new students.
The Rector also encouraged students to take an active role in campus life. Being a university student, he said, means having the courage to ask questions, engage in discussions, read, conduct research, join organizations, take part in competitions, and get involved in various positive activities.
“Do not be afraid to try, and do not be afraid of failure. Failure in the learning process is not the end of the journey; it is an important part of becoming a more mature person,” he added.
Amid rapid technological developments, students were also reminded to use technology and artificial intelligence (AI) wisely. Technology can be used to broaden perspectives, support the learning process, and create meaningful work. However, its use must always go hand in hand with academic honesty and responsibility.

Beyond academic abilities, the Rector emphasized the importance of building good relationships throughout university life. Students are expected to respect lecturers, education staff, senior students, and their fellow students. Campus is not only a place to gain knowledge, but also a space to build networks and friendships.
Another important message was the need to maintain integrity. Students were urged to stay away from plagiarism, academic dishonesty, bullying, violence, intolerance, and other behaviors that could harm themselves or others.
From the very beginning of their studies, students were also encouraged to set goals for what they want to achieve. These goals may include academic achievements, competencies, organizational experience, creative works, research, entrepreneurship, or community service.
“Do not only ask, ‘What will I get from the university?’ Start asking, ‘What can I give and contribute to the university, society, and the nation?’” he continued.
The message also served as a reminder for new students to uphold the good name of their alma mater. Wherever they are, UMPWR students are expected to demonstrate that they are knowledgeable, well-mannered, responsible individuals who are able to make a positive contribution to those around them.
Study to gain knowledge, join organizations to learn leadership, create to bring benefits, and build character to become people of dignity.
Concluding his message, the Rector congratulated all new students as they embarked on their new journey as members of the UMPWR community. Every process, challenge, and experience they encounter during their university years is expected to become valuable preparation for the future while shaping them into outstanding, strong-charactered individuals who can contribute to others.
“Happy learning, happy creating, and welcome to a generation that brings about positive change.”
