Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) continues to strengthen its contribution to the implementation of national community service programs. In 2026, UMPWR has once again secured funding under the Kosabangsa Program, marking its fourth participation as a Supporting Team. UMPWR will collaborate with Universitas Kristen Wira Wacana Sumba as the Implementing Team.
The appointment is based on the Decree of the Director of Research and Community Service No. 1033/DST/C3/DT.05.00/2026, dated August 28, 2026, concerning the recipients of funding for the 2026 Kosabangsa Program issued by the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM).
The proposed program is entitled “Implementation of Solar Energy Technology to Support the Blue Economy through Increased Productivity of Ikat Weaving and Seaweed in the Disadvantaged (3T) Village of Kaliuda, East Sumba Regency.”
The UMPWR Supporting Team is led by Prof. Dr. Suyitno, M.Pd., with Dr. Murry Harmawan, M.Sc. and Dr. Jeki Wibawanti, M.Eng., M.Si. serving as members. Meanwhile, the Implementing Team from Universitas Kristen Wira Wacana Sumba is led by Dr. Tumpal Pangihutan Situmorang, with Elsa Christin Saragih, M.P. and Yatris Rambu Tega, M.Si. as team members.
Through this collaboration, the teams will implement appropriate solar-powered technology to support increased productivity among communities in Kaliuda Village, East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The use of renewable energy is expected to support local productive activities, particularly in the ikat weaving and seaweed sectors, which represent important components of the area's local economic potential.
The program promotes the concept of a blue economy, which focuses on the productive utilization of coastal and marine resources while maintaining the principles of sustainability. Integrating solar energy technology with the development of local commodities is expected to improve production efficiency, increase product value, and strengthen the economic independence of local communities.
As the Supporting Team, UMPWR will contribute to the transfer of knowledge and technology, capacity building for the Implementing Team and community partners, and ensuring that the technology introduced can provide sustainable benefits for the target communities.
The successful acquisition of Kosabangsa 2026 funding further reinforces UMPWR's commitment to implementing the Catur Dharma of Muhammadiyah Higher Education, particularly through community service initiatives based on research outcomes, technological innovation, and collaboration among higher education institutions.
Through the synergy between Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo and Universitas Kristen Wira Wacana Sumba, the program is expected not only to facilitate the application of appropriate technology but also to develop a sustainable community empowerment model. Ultimately, the initiative is expected to generate a tangible impact on productivity and improve the welfare of communities in disadvantaged (3T) areas.
