Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – A total of 36 student organizations (Ormawa) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) have officially been inaugurated for the 2026/2027 term. Carrying the theme “Achieving, Building Synergy, and Contributing to Institutional Progress,” the joint inauguration was held at the Seminar Room, East Campus of UMPWR, on Friday (August 28, 2026).
The event was attended by representatives from 36 Student Activity Units (UKM) and Student Association (HIMA), each represented by their respective chairpersons and members of the management. The inauguration marked the beginning of a new responsibility for the newly appointed student leaders to run their organizations while playing an active role in strengthening student activities across the university.
Head of Student Affairs at UMPWR, Dedi Runanto, S.E., M.Si., said that students have many opportunities to develop their potential while pursuing achievements. These opportunities are available not only through activities on campus but also through various competitions and events outside the university.
He cited UMPWR students’ participation in the 1st Muhammadiyah Games some time ago as one example of an opportunity for students to develop their abilities while representing the university.
“There are many activities that student organizations can take part in. Make the most of these opportunities. Don’t just be active in organizing activities; make sure those activities can lead to achievements and bring recognition to UMPWR,” he said.
Dedi also encouraged the 2026/2027 student organization leaders to be more proactive in seeking competition opportunities, building networks, and creating impactful programs. He emphasized that student achievements ultimately become part of the university’s achievements as an institution.

Meanwhile, UMPWR Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., in his address, emphasized the important role of student organizations in supporting the university’s student affairs targets.
The Rector encouraged students to become more actively involved in national programs such as the Student Creativity Program (PKM), Student Entrepreneurship Development Program (P2MW), and Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa). These programs are not merely platforms for competition, but also opportunities for students to gain experience, build portfolios and networks, and strengthen their competitiveness.
In this context, the theme “Achieving, Building Synergy, and Contributing to Institutional Progress” reflects the direction of student organization development at UMPWR. Achievement, he stressed, should go hand in hand with synergy and meaningful contributions to both the university and the wider community.
Student organizations are also expected to strengthen collaboration with alumni. Activities such as alumni gatherings, tracer studies, business incubation, innovation initiatives, and community service can provide opportunities for students to connect organizational activities with the needs of the university and society.
“Student organizations are expected to continue innovating, strengthen collaboration with alumni, and create activities that provide tangible benefits for students, the university, and the wider community,” the Rector emphasized in his address.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Dr. Budi Setiawan, S.Sos., M.Si. The newly appointed student organization leaders officially assumed their responsibilities for the 2026/2027 term.
Following the inauguration, the event continued with a capacity-building and sharing session for student organizations, featuring Head of the Bureau of Student Affairs, Promotion and New Student Admissions, Dr. Hermawan, M.Pd.I., and Head of Student Affairs, Dedi Runanto, S.E., M.Si.
The session provided the student organization leaders with additional insights into organizational management and the direction of student activities at UMPWR. The hope is that their programs will go beyond routine organizational agendas and create more opportunities for students to achieve, build synergy, and make meaningful contributions.
With this spirit, the 2026/2027 UMPWR student organizations are expected to bring fresh energy to campus life: achieving through creativity and competition, building synergy through collaboration, and contributing through programs that support the progress of the institution. (akb/KP)
