Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – Efforts to promote more environmentally friendly vegetable cultivation continue through Community Service (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PkM) activities. This time, the PkM team from the Agribusiness Study Program at UMPWR invited women from the Dawis group in Turusan Hamlet, Loano Village, Loano District, Purworejo Regency, to make use of Ecocyl to support vegetable cultivation.
The activity, titled “2026 Ecocyl Use Competition for Vegetable Cultivation,” was held on Thursday (August 20, 2026), in Turusan Hamlet. The activity was attended by Head of the Agribusiness Study Program at UMPWR, Isna Windani, S.P., M.Sc., along with Agribusiness lecturers Dyah Panuntun Utami, S.P., M.Sc., Istiko Agus Wicaksono, S.P., M.Sc., and Arta Kusumaningrum, S.P. The activity was also attended by women from the Dawis group of RT 01/RW 06, Turusan Hamlet, Loano Village.
Through the activity, the PkM team not only provided participants with knowledge but also invited them to see firsthand how materials that are often considered waste can be reused. The materials covered the use of composters made from leftover vegetables and fruits placed in used bottles, the use of soil and worms as growing media, as well as the reuse of used water gallons to support cultivation activities.
The concepts introduced were then put into practice through vegetable cultivation activities. Participants were encouraged to understand that household organic waste can be managed in simple ways while also providing benefits for plant growth.

Head of the PkM Team, Dyah Panuntun Utami, S.P., M.Sc., said the activity was designed so that the knowledge provided would not stop at the delivery of materials but could be directly applied by the community.
“We want the women not only to understand how to make and use Ecocyl, but also to see its direct benefits for vegetable cultivation. Through this activity, we hope this simple innovation can continue to be applied in their own homes,” Dyah said.
The participants’ enthusiasm was evident throughout the activity. The Dawis members actively took part in the process and showed interest in trying the innovation independently. The healthy and green appearance of the cultivated vegetables also encouraged participants to continue applying the practice.
Head of the Agribusiness Study Program at UMPWR, Isna Windani, S.P., M.Sc., said activities like this provide an opportunity for universities to bring knowledge closer to the needs of the community.
“Agribusiness is not only about agricultural production and yields, but also about how the resources around us can be utilized more wisely. Through this activity, we want to encourage the community to see that household waste can also be processed and reused to support plant cultivation,” Isna explained.
She added that community involvement is an important part of ensuring the sustainability of the program. Once participants understand the benefits and how to apply the innovation, they can develop the practice more independently.
The PkM activity also reinforces the commitment of the Agribusiness Study Program at UMPWR to continue developing activities that are not only educational but also provide tangible benefits to the community. The use of Ecocyl is expected to become a simple step toward reducing organic waste while supporting vegetable cultivation at home.
