Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – The spirit of independence was felt even more vibrantly across the Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) campus on Monday (17/8/2026). Following the flag-raising ceremony commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, the UMPWR academic community took part in an inter-building volleyball match, marking the opening of the 62nd Anniversary (Milad) of UMPWR celebrations.
The match brought together representatives from four UMPWR buildings: the East Campus Building, West Campus Building, Campus II Plaosan, and Campus III Sucen. Each team brought enthusiasm and a strong sense of teamwork to the competition, which took place in a friendly and lively atmosphere.
More than just a sporting competition, the inter-building volleyball match provided UMPWR with a relaxed and engaging way to kick off its 62nd Anniversary celebrations. After taking part in the solemn Independence Day ceremony, members of the academic community gathered to exercise, support one another, and enjoy a moment of togetherness as they celebrated Indonesia’s Independence Day.
UMPWR Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., said that the opening event was intentionally designed to emphasize togetherness. According to him, the anniversary is not simply about celebrating another year in the university’s journey, but also about strengthening relationships among members of the academic community.
“The anniversary is not only about marking another year for UMPWR, but also about maintaining our sense of togetherness. This inter-building volleyball match is one way to build team spirit and strengthen our bonds. Since it is being held alongside the commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day, the spirit behind the event becomes even stronger,” Teguh said.
He expressed his hope that the series of activities marking UMPWR’s 62nd Anniversary would provide opportunities for the entire academic community to build closer relationships while fostering positive energy in their daily activities on campus.
Meanwhile, Chair of the 62nd Anniversary Committee, Dr. Arif Maftukin, M.Pd., welcomed the decision to open the anniversary celebrations with a sporting event. He said that the participation of representatives from different campus buildings reflected the idea that the anniversary belongs to the entire UMPWR community.
“We want the anniversary activities to be enjoyed and experienced by the entire academic community. This volleyball match is a simple opening event, but it carries a strong spirit of togetherness. What matters most is not simply winning or losing, but having the opportunity to gather, interact, and enjoy the UMPWR Anniversary celebrations together,” Arif said.
The inter-building volleyball match was also part of the broader spirit of celebrating the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence. The sportsmanship, teamwork, and sense of togetherness displayed during the matches are expected to provide positive energy for the rest of the 62nd Anniversary of UMPWR celebrations.
With the volleyball match, the spirit of UMPWR’s 62nd Anniversary has officially begun. A series of activities will follow as part of the celebration of UMPWR’s journey and as an opportunity to strengthen the sense of togetherness across the university community.
