Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – Through its Library Unit (UPT Perpustakaan), Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) continues to strengthen its academic ecosystem while enhancing the quality of library services. This commitment was demonstrated through the Introduction to Reputable National and International Journal Indexing workshop, held in conjunction with the Handover Ceremony of the Muhammadiyah Business Association Library Collection Grant, at the Thesis Examination Room, Building A1, UMPWR, on Monday (July 27, 2026).

The event was organized as part of the university's preparation for library accreditation. In addition to introducing participants to reputable national and international journal indexing systems, the program aimed to enhance the academic community's ability to access high-quality scholarly references. On the same occasion, the UMPWR Library received a grant of printed and digital collections from the Muhammadiyah Business Association to enrich the learning resources available to lecturers and students.

A total of 15 participants, comprising 14 lecturers and one librarian, attended the event. The speakers included Prof. Dr. Suyitno, M.Pd., Professor of the Automotive Engineering Education Study Program at UMPWR; Dr. Riawan Yudi Purwoko, S.Si., M.Pd., Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UMPWR; and Adhi Kurniawan, M.Hum., CHCM., representing the Muhammadiyah Business Association.

The program began with opening remarks by Nurmansyah Alami, M.T., Head of the UMPWR Library Unit, followed by the symbolic handover of the grant by Adhi Kurniawan. The donation consisted of printed books and access to digital collections, including magazines and newspapers, which will later be accessible online through the UMPWR Library website.

The event was officially opened by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., Rector of UMPWR. In his remarks, he emphasized that modern university libraries are no longer merely repositories of books, but have evolved into strategic centers for fostering academic culture and research excellence.

"Scholarly publication is one of the key indicators of a university's quality. Therefore, we must continue to strengthen lecturers' competencies in accessing scientific references and producing high-impact scholarly publications. I also highly appreciate the grant from the Muhammadiyah Business Association, which will enrich UMPWR's learning resources. Hopefully, this collaboration will further strengthen the culture of literacy, research, and academic publication across our university," said the Rector.

The first presentation was delivered by Dr. Riawan Yudi Purwoko under the theme Mapping and Navigating Scholarly Publications. He provided strategic guidance for lecturers and librarians on planning successful publication pathways, covering journal indexing systems, reputation metrics, journal quartiles, and strategies for selecting journals that align with their academic disciplines.

The second session was presented by Prof. Dr. Suyitno, who discussed effective strategies for writing scholarly articles for both national and international journals. He emphasized that publication is not merely an academic obligation but also a researcher's responsibility to disseminate research findings for the benefit of society. His presentation also covered selecting target journals, preparing manuscripts according to journal templates, and improving the likelihood of acceptance in reputable journals.

Meanwhile, Adhi Kurniawan explained that the library collection grant represents the Muhammadiyah Business Association's tangible contribution to supporting knowledge development within Muhammadiyah Educational Institutions (Amal Usaha Muhammadiyah). According to him, the initiative reflects the commitment of Muhammadiyah entrepreneurs to create broader educational benefits through library grants.

He further explained that the donated collections include printed books, magazines, and licensed digital newspapers, such as Suara Merdeka, National Geographic Indonesia, and Bobo. These resources are expected to be widely utilized by lecturers and students as valuable references for learning and research activities.

In addition to enriching the university library's collections, Adhi expressed his hope that this initiative would serve as a catalyst for stronger collaboration among Muhammadiyah institutions, including universities, Regional Muhammadiyah Boards (PDM), and Provincial Muhammadiyah Boards (PWM), thereby fostering a stronger spirit of mutual support in advancing education.
