Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR), through its Library Unit (UPT Perpustakaan), has once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening literacy among students. In collaboration with the Purworejo Regency Library and Archives Office, UMPWR organized a Social Media Content, Informative Thread, and Story Writing Workshop on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Tunas Melati Library of SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo.

The workshop was part of a joint initiative to develop students' creative writing skills while supporting the School Literacy Movement (Gerakan Literasi Sekolah). It also aimed to enhance the role of school libraries as centers for learning, creativity, and student development.

The program was attended by 25 students from SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo, along with library staff from SMP Negeri 1 through SMP Negeri 6 Purworejo. The training was delivered by Mahestya Andi Sanjaya, S.Pd., an alumnus of UMPWR's Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program (PBSI) and an active content creator.

During the session, Mahestya encouraged participants to see social media as a platform for sharing meaningful and beneficial content. In addition to learning how to create engaging social media posts, participants also received hands-on training in video editing using the CapCut application, enabling them to produce videos ready for publication on social media platforms.

Head of UMPWR Library Unit, Nurmansyah Akami, M.T., explained that the workshop at SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo was a continuation of the collaboration between UMPWR and the Purworejo Regency Library and Archives Office to strengthen the role of school libraries. A similar program had previously been conducted at SMP Negeri 5 Purworejo.

"This workshop at SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo is a continuation of our collaboration to develop school libraries in Purworejo, following the program previously held at SMP Negeri 5 Purworejo. We invited Mahestya Andi Sanjaya, an alumnus of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo who is now actively writing content for both print and digital media. We hope the students will learn how to create engaging content while improving their writing skills. This roadshow will also continue at four other schools," he said.

Meanwhile, Hari Bowo Ottoifan, S.E., representing the Head of the Purworejo Regency Library and Archives Office, emphasized that school libraries should continue evolving into spaces that equip students with practical skills for the future.

"School libraries should not only serve as places to borrow and return books, but also provide activities that equip students with valuable skills, including writing for print and digital media. That is why we are collaborating with the Library Unit of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo and six schools to organize this training. We sincerely thank SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo for hosting the event and UMPWR for providing an outstanding resource person," he stated.

The workshop at SMP Negeri 4 Purworejo marked the second stop of the roadshow, following the first session at SMP Negeri 5 Purworejo. The program will continue at SMP Negeri 1, SMP Negeri 2, SMP Negeri 3, and SMP Negeri 6 Purworejo, with different themes tailored to the needs of each school.

Through this collaboration, UMPWR hopes that school libraries will continue to grow as literacy centers that not only foster reading habits but also nurture a generation of creative, critical, and digitally responsible young people.
