Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) proudly celebrates another academic milestone as Iyus Herdiana Saputra, M.S.I., officially earned his doctoral degree after successfully defending his dissertation in the Doctoral Program of Islamic Education at the Graduate School of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

The achievement reflects UMPWR's continued commitment to strengthening academic excellence and enhancing the qualifications of its faculty members through advanced education and research.

The doctoral defense was attended by the Rector of UMPWR, the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK), representatives of LP3AK UMPWR, as well as family members who came to support Iyus on this important occasion.

During the defense, Iyus presented his dissertation entitled "The Science Islamic Boarding School Curriculum Unification Model: A New Paradigm for the Unification of Islam and Science." The research was conducted at Trensains Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren Trensains) and was inspired by his academic concern over the persistent separation between religious knowledge and scientific knowledge in education.

According to Iyus, many graduates from religious educational institutions possess a strong understanding of Islamic teachings but have limited exposure to science. Conversely, graduates with strong scientific backgrounds often lack a solid foundation in Islamic studies. This gap motivated him to develop the concept of the unification of Islamic Education (PAI) through the integration of divine revelation and science.

His study proposes a curriculum model for Islamic boarding schools that no longer treats religion and science as separate disciplines, but instead views them as complementary sources of knowledge. This integrated approach is expected to produce graduates who are spiritually grounded, scientifically competent, and well-equipped to address contemporary challenges.

The Rector of UMPWR congratulated Dr. Iyus Herdiana Saputra on his achievement, emphasizing that the accomplishment reflects the university's ongoing efforts to foster academic excellence.

"We extend our sincere congratulations to Dr. Iyus Herdiana Saputra on earning his doctoral degree. We hope this accomplishment will further enhance the quality of education, research, and community service at UMPWR. We also hope his expertise and research will make meaningful contributions to the advancement of Islamic education and society," the Rector stated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Iyus expressed his hope that his research would extend beyond academic discourse and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of Islamic Education, particularly in promoting a curriculum that integrates Islamic values with scientific knowledge.

"I hope this research will serve as a valuable reference for the development of Islamic Education and Islamic boarding school curricula, enabling the meaningful integration of revelation and science in educational practice. I also hope that this study will benefit educators, researchers, policymakers, and the wider community," he said.

Dr. Iyus Herdiana Saputra's achievement not only marks a significant personal milestone but also reflects UMPWR's commitment to encouraging its academics to pursue scholarly excellence and contribute to the advancement of education and society.
