Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting student talent development by participating in the 2026 Central Java Student Arts Week (PEKSIMIDA). The University's Student Choir, PSM Surya Sagitta, represented UMPWR in the Vocal Group Competition, held at the Balairung of Satya Wacana Christian University (UKSW), Salatiga, on 9–10 July 2026.
The competition brought together 17 vocal groups representing universities across Central Java. UMPWR's participation reflected the University's ongoing encouragement for students to develop their artistic potential while engaging in healthy competition at the provincial level.
More than just a competition, PEKSIMIDA serves as a platform for students to refine their musical abilities, gain valuable stage experience, expand their artistic perspectives, and proudly represent their universities.
Throughout the event, the Surya Sagitta Choir took part in a series of activities, including participant registration, the technical meeting, and final performance preparations. On the competition day, the team delivered a performance that was the result of intensive rehearsals, dedication, and teamwork.
Although the team did not secure a championship title, participating in PEKSIMIDA proved to be a meaningful experience. The event provided valuable opportunities to learn, compete, exchange ideas, and build friendships with fellow student artists from universities throughout Central Java.
Laura Courlita Cahayani, President of PSM Surya Sagitta, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to represent UMPWR at the prestigious event.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to represent Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo at this competition. Although we were not able to bring home the championship, we hope this experience will motivate us to continue creating, improve our abilities, and give our very best in future competitions," she said.
The participation of PSM Surya Sagitta in the 2026 Central Java PEKSIMIDA reflects UMPWR's commitment to fostering students' holistic development. In addition to academic excellence, the University continues to encourage students to excel in the arts, culture, and creativity as part of preparing graduates who are competent, well-rounded, and ready to contribute to society.
