Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) — The Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (PBSI), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at UMPWR, held the PBSI Entrepreneur and Business Plan Expo 2026 on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The event took place at the courtyard of Building A4, West Campus of UMPWR, creating a lively atmosphere filled with enthusiasm.

The expo was attended by 40 second-semester PBSI students, divided into 13 groups. Each group presented business ideas they had developed as part of their Final Semester Examination (UAS) for the Entrepreneur and Business Plan course.

A variety of products were showcased during the expo. In addition to modern snacks popular among students, several groups also introduced traditional foods that evoked a sense of nostalgia. From tiwul gigit, rich in local flavor, to modern-style risoles, all products reflected the students’ creativity in transforming business ideas into real and marketable products.

The atmosphere became even more vibrant with the presence of students from various study programs, educational staff, and lecturers who visited the participants’ booths. The warm interactions between sellers and visitors made the event more than just an academic assessment—it also became a meaningful hands-on learning experience for the students.

The PBSI Expo 2026 served as a direct implementation of the learning process in the Entrepreneur and Business Plan course, designed to enhance students’ competencies in entrepreneurship and business planning. In this activity, students were not assessed solely based on sales performance. The evaluation also covered several important aspects, including promotional strategies, booth decoration creativity, product presentation, teamwork, and the ability to develop comprehensive business concepts.

Head of the PBSI Study Program, Dr. Umi Faizah, M.Pd., stated that the event served as a form of contextual learning that provided students with direct practical experience.

“Through this expo, students learn that entrepreneurship is not merely about selling products, but also about identifying opportunities, building strategies, communicating with consumers, and working effectively in teams. We want them to gain relevant skills, both for the professional world and for creating their own business opportunities,” she said.

According to her, entrepreneurial skills have become one of the essential competencies students need in today’s era, including those studying education and language.

One of the expo participants, Fibri Setiawati, admitted that she gained many valuable lessons from the event. She experienced firsthand the challenges of running a business, from planning to marketing.

“At first, we thought the most difficult part would be making the product. However, we realized that marketing and attracting customers also require strategy. Through this activity, I learned about teamwork, communication, and the importance of confidence when offering products,” Fibri explained.

Through this activity, PBSI UMPWR demonstrated that language and literature education can go hand in hand with the development of soft skills, including an entrepreneurial mindset. The expo proved that students are not only equipped with academic knowledge in the classroom, but also with practical skills that will benefit them in the future.
