Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) has once again achieved a proud milestone in its campus internationalization efforts. In the new student admission for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, a total of 68 prospective international students from various countries have registered to continue their studies at UMPWR.
The applicants come from Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria, Kenya, Burundi, Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste. Currently, all of these prospective international students are undergoing the selection process to obtain scholarships from UMPWR before officially joining the university’s academic community.
The strong interest from international students in pursuing higher education at UMPWR sends a positive signal that the university is gaining wider recognition, not only at the national level but also on the global stage. This trust from international applicants also reflects UMPWR’s continuous growth as a higher education institution that offers quality education within an inclusive and competitive academic environment.
UMPWR Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teguh Wibowo, M.Pd., expressed his gratitude for this achievement. According to him, the presence of dozens of prospective international students is the result of the university’s long-term commitment to building academic reputation and expanding international networks.
“Alhamdulillah, we are deeply grateful for the trust placed in UMPWR by these prospective international students. Having 68 applicants from various countries is an achievement we should all be thankful for. This shows that UMPWR is becoming increasingly recognized at the global level. We hope the presence of international students will enrich our academic atmosphere, broaden cross-cultural perspectives, and further enhance the quality of learning on campus,” said the Rector.
Vice Rector IV for Cooperation and Al-Islam & Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tusino, M.Pd.B.I., added that the growing number of international applicants is closely linked to the strengthening of UMPWR’s international partnerships over the past few years.
“The increase in international applicants is the result of continuous collaboration, promotion, and global partnerships that we have built. We want to ensure that UMPWR stands as a university that is open to the world while remaining firmly rooted in the values of Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah. Internationalization is not merely about welcoming international students, but also about building a more competitive and world-class academic ecosystem,” he explained.
In line with this, the Head of UMPWR International Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jeki Mediantari Wahyu Wibawanti, M.Eng., M.Si., stated that this enthusiasm serves as a major motivation for UMPWR to continue improving its international services.
“The enthusiasm shown by these 68 prospective international students is truly encouraging. At present, they are undergoing UMPWR scholarship selection. We are committed to providing the best support, from the selection process and administrative assistance to academic and cultural adaptation once they begin studying in Purworejo. We hope they will feel comfortable and grow together with UMPWR,” she stated.
Amid the increasing number of international applicants, UMPWR also hopes that interest from prospective students in Purworejo and surrounding areas will continue to grow. The presence of both local and international students is expected to create a dynamic, diverse, and mutually inspiring learning environment.
Through this achievement, UMPWR further reinforces its commitment to becoming an inspiring and empowering university—connecting local potential with global networks while producing graduates who are excellent, well-rounded, and ready to face global challenges.
