Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) – The Civil Engineering Student Association (HIMA Teknik Sipil) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo (UMPWR) successfully organized a National Seminar on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS/K3) on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Kasman Singodimedjo Auditorium, UMPWR. Carrying the theme “Optimizing Construction OHS Systems to Support the Realization of Safe, Comfortable, and High-Quality Development,” the seminar was attended by approximately 200 participants, including university students, members of the public, and invited guests.

The seminar featured Ir. Habibie Razak, M.M., IPU., FIEAust., ASEAN Eng., ACPE Eng., CPEng., EngExec., IntPE (Aus) as the keynote speaker. A highly experienced professional engineer and currently the Regional Director (Energy) at Surbana Jurong Group, he shared valuable insights into the importance of implementing Occupational Health and Safety systems throughout all stages of construction projects.

The event was organized to enhance awareness and understanding among future engineers regarding the critical role of occupational safety and health as an essential component of professional engineering practice. Beyond mastering technical competencies, engineers are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to worker safety, workplace well-being, and project quality.

The Head of the Civil Engineering Study Program, Agung Nusantoro, M.T., expressed his appreciation for the successful implementation of the seminar. He emphasized that such activities provide students with opportunities to broaden their knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of real-world industry challenges.

“Occupational Health and Safety is not merely a set of regulations to comply with; it is a professional culture that every engineer must embrace. Through this seminar, we hope Civil Engineering students at UMPWR will understand that the success of a project is measured not only by timely completion but also by how effectively safety standards are implemented,” said Agung Nusantoro.

Participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the event. In addition to gaining knowledge from an experienced industry practitioner, they were also given the opportunity to engage in discussions on current issues and challenges related to OHS implementation in the rapidly evolving construction sector.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Fauzi Prianda Setiawan, Public Relations Officer of the Civil Engineering Student Association, stated that the seminar reflected the organization's commitment to promoting competence development and safety awareness among young generations.

“We hope this national seminar serves as an inspiring learning platform and provides new perspectives for students and the public on the importance of Occupational Health and Safety in the construction industry. Safety should always be a top priority and a value that is cultivated from the university level,” he explained.

Through this National OHS Seminar, the Civil Engineering Student Association of UMPWR not only provided a forum for knowledge sharing and professional networking but also contributed to preparing competent, professional, and safety-conscious future engineers who are ready to support safer, more comfortable, and higher-quality development in Indonesia.
