The World Health Organization (WHO) first mentioned the coronavirus disease that was first discovered in Wuhan, China in late December 2019 with the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus- 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a virus that attacks the respiratory system. It can cause mild respiratory distress, severe lung infection, and death. The virus was originally found in animals - such as camels, snakes, farm animals, cats and bats. Humans can contract the virus if there is a history of contact with these animals, such as farmers or traders in animal markets. However, the explosion in the number of cases in Wuhan, China shows that the coronavirus can be transmitted from human to human. The virus can be transmitted through droplets, which are very small particles of water that are usually released when coughing or sneezing. If the droplet is inhaled or hits the corneal layer of the eye, a person is at risk of contracting this disease. Indonesia itself first reported 2 positive cases of COVID-19 on 2 March 2020(1).
As of 15 April 2020, confirmed cases were at 4,839 people, where the mortality ratio was 9.5% (459 people), PDPs under treatment were 3,954 people, and 426 patients recovered. 34 provinces have been declared infected with COVID-19, where there are 5 provinces with confirmed cases of more than 100 people (DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Banten Central Java, and South Sulawesi), DKI Jakarta is the largest with 2,335 confirmed cases. The initial symptoms of coronavirus infection or COVID-19 can resemble flu symptoms, namely fever, runny nose, dry cough, sore throat, and headache. After that, symptoms can disappear and heal or even worsen. Patients with severe symptoms can experience high fever, coughing up phlegm and even bleeding, shortness of breath, and chest pain. These symptoms appear when the body reacts against the coronavirus. These COVID-19 symptoms generally appear within 2 days to 2 weeks after the patient is exposed to the Corona virus. The long incubation period of the virus makes early detection of COVID-19 symptoms important. Some patients infected with the Coronavirus can experience a decrease in oxygen without any symptoms. This condition is called happy hypoxia. To confirm whether these symptoms are symptoms of the Corona virus, a rapid test or PCR is needed.
